Su.Re. Digital Hub
The Su.Re Digital Hub is a digital repository of resources for companies, researchers and designers active in the fashion industry that aim at rendering retail more sustainable

About the Project

Su.Re. Digital Hub is a digital repository designed to support companies, researchers, and designers in the fashion industry who are working to make retail more sustainable. Developed through extensive academic research and field-based investigations, Su.Re. collects, organizes, and shares a wide range of resources that aim to inform and inspire concrete, service-oriented strategies for sustainable retail transformation.

At the heart of Su.Re. lies the idea that retail spaces are not just points of sale, but crucial touchpoints in the broader sustainability transition. From physical stores to digital platforms, retailers today have the opportunity—and responsibility—to play an active role in promoting environmental responsibility, social inclusion, and consumer awareness.

The platform offers access to structured content such as:

  • A service ontology that maps over 140 recurring sustainability-related services already active across Europe;
  • Service templates that describe real, replicable initiatives, from garment repair and product traceability to education and community engagement;
  • A growing collection of case studies, actors, and tools to support implementation and experimentation;
  • Research-backed insights into the role of servitization in shifting fashion from a linear to a circular model.

Su.Re. is built on the belief that collaboration between industry and research is essential to drive meaningful change. By providing a shared language and a structured overview of what sustainability can look like in practice, the hub enables diverse actors—from startups to large brands, from local artisans to policy advisors—to find inspiration and alignment.

The platform is also meant to support decision-making and innovation by making complex knowledge more accessible and applicable. Whether you’re redesigning a retail strategy, studying sustainable business models, or prototyping new services, Su.Re. offers a curated entry point into a network of ideas, practices, and resources that are already shaping the future of fashion.

Su.Re. is not a marketplace or a showcase. It is a toolbox for transformation: an open, evolving space that invites you to explore what sustainable retail can become.

A group of professionals, including members of the Su.Re. research team and individuals from Stella McCartney, are seated around a large black conference table in a modern, well-lit meeting room. They are engaged in a presentation displayed on a screen at the front of the room. Some participants are taking notes on laptops, while others are listening attentively. Circular ceiling lights create a warm, focused atmosphere, and shelves filled with documents and books line one wall.
The image shows the Su.Re. research team in discussion with managers and executives of Stella McCartney.

Su.Re. Digital Hub is developed within the framework of the MUSA – Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action project, funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU initiative under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 – Education and Research, Component 2 – From Research to Business, Investment 1.5 – Creation and Strengthening of “Innovation Ecosystems”. MUSA is a strategic partnership involving University of Milano-Bicocca, Politecnico di Milano, Bocconi University, and Università degli Studi di Milano, aimed at fostering sustainable innovation across urban systems, including fashion and retail.

Who we are

The Su.Re. research team is part of the Spoke 5 of the MUSA — Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action — project, coordinated by Politecnico di Milano and financed by the Ministry of University and Research with European funds. Spoke 5 focuses on sustainable design-driven retail and service models, aiming to align Milan's luxury, fashion, and design sectors with European sustainability standards. Led by the Department of Design in collaboration with Retail Experience Lab (REL), the project explores innovative solutions to integrate sustainability into retail practices. Through design-driven approaches, Spoke 5 seeks to embed sustainable practices into retail services and product offerings, enhancing both customer experiences and environmental impact.
